If you’re planning a hen do during the summer months then you know it’s going to be all about the cocktails, warm evenings and holidays abroad. However, summer is also festival season in the UK and in many cities around Europe, so for music lovers, this provides some excellent hen party opportunities. Even if camping isn’t your thing, you can book accommodation in the nearest city meaning you can enjoy a comfy bed every night. Festival by day – swanky hotel by night!

So, here is a list of some top UK and European festivals that you can coordinate with your hen do. You’ll notice we haven’t mentioned Glastonbury. Though it is one of the best festivals in the world, it’s notoriously difficult to get tickets and with ticket prices rising every year, we thought it best to give you girls some cheaper alternatives.

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend

Held around the end of July

Hosted by the nation’s favourite radio station, Big Weekend is held in different locations every year either here in the UK or in party destinations like Ibiza. You can expect three days of the most popular and current artists across five stages. You’re sure to spot famous DJs and will can even listen back one the festival is over. The fact that it’s in a different city every year may help you with where to host the hen party!

The Isle of White Festival

Held in mid-June

This one is a chilled, family-friendly festival but with a great party atmosphere that you girls will love. You won’t get a load of rowdy teens leaving their helium canisters all over the place. Nor will you need to walk miles to the main stage. A hen party in the Isle of White is also a great option if you don’t want to go far but want to escape from mainland England.

Bestival

Held at the beginning of August

If you’re into your raves and dressing up, then Bestival is the one for you. Held in Dorset, this one is filled with carnival vibes and dancing.  They often have a fancy-dressed theme every year so make sure to grab your sparkly clothes and wacky hats before you go!

Reading and Leeds Festival

Held at the end of August

One of the most popular and attended festivals, Reading and Leeds are usually held during the August bank holiday weekend. They both happen simultaneously so you’ll want to pick whether you want to head north or south during your hen weekend. Expect huge artists, late nights, and busy crowds!

Truck Festival

Held at the end of July

This is a smaller, lesser known festival but is hailed as being a ‘mini Glastonbury.’ Situated in the gorgeous Oxfordshire countryside, you don’t need a map to get around this one. With just two stages, you don’t need to miss out on your favourite bands and you and the girls can stick together. There are also so some fantastic independent food stalls, making this as much a foodie festival as it is music!

Tomorrowland

Held in July

Tomorrowland is held in Belgium and considered one of the biggest dance music festivals in the world. That’s right, you’ll find everything here that your electro tastes desire. Whether that’s EDM, dance, house, drum n’ bass, trance – the list goes on – you and the girls will have a smashing time dancing in to the early hours as you celebrate the bride’s last weekend of freedom!

Sziget Festival

Held in August

Sziget Festival in Budapest sells out every year without fail. It hosts an eclectic mix of music, from rock to indie, dance to R&B. Not only is this Hungarian city a fantastic hen party destination, but you’ll enjoy an amazing culture at the same time.
