Contrary to popular belief you don't have to be a shady character with a fur lined jacket, flat cap and a sly cigarette hanging out the corner of your mouth, to be accepted into the world of greyhound racing.

Nowadays 'The Dogs', as it's affectionately known, attracts a rather varied set of clientele and has become a popular place for people to socialise, place a bet and have some fun on their hen weekend or hen party.

With its new and modern approach to racing, and in a bid to improve standards, the racing stadiums now contain plush restaurants, corporate entertainment facilities, private boxes and lively bar areas.

Although a smarter venue, I'm sure jumping up and down, screaming at the running rabbit with a bag of chips and warm beer in your hands, is still very much allowed as fun and enjoyment are the key requirements to this afternoon of hen party greyhound racing.

How to Place a Bet when Greyhound Racing

Step 1 - Always have your money ready to give to the clerk
Step 2 - Tell the clerk which track you desire to bet
Step 3 - Tell the clerk the dollar amount and type of bet
Step 4 - Tell the clerk the blanket numbers you desire to select
Step 5 - Leave the window and take your place beside the track.
Note Always check your ticket(s) before leaving the teller window, to make sure the track, bet, race number and blanket selections are correct. Tickets can not be changed or cancelled after leaving the tell window.
