Celebrating Afternoon Tea Week 2019

Celebrating Afternoon Tea Week 2019

Who knew there was a whole week dedicated to the sweetest of afternoon delights, Afternoon Tea?! Hen Heaven HQ knew, that’s who! And there was no way we were missing out on the chance to bask in its greatness by indulging in a Rosie Lee and a big old slab of cake. Or, being that we are Brighton based, a cup of Green Tea and a lush Vegan sponge!

Our love began with all our amazing suppliers who offer this activity to our heavenly hen groups week in and week out. So, in the interest of sharing the wealth, we thought we’d take the time to give you some insight into this age-old tradition and tell you why YOU should love an afternoon tea too!

1. The Origins of Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea with lots of cakes, scones and other sweet treats

Whilst afternoon teas are all the rage this year, they are certainly not new, originating in 1840 for a reason I feel we can all relate to! It has been reported that the Duchess of Bedford struggled with those late afternoon munchies just like the best of us and needed an indulgence between lunch and dinner. The express states, “At first, she just had tea and a snack alone in her boudoir, but soon began to invite her friends”. Thus, the Afternoon Tea was born!

So, why not do as Duchesses do and gather your friends for a hot beverage, a sweet treat and most importantly, a good-old catch up?

And from its humble beginnings, the afternoon tea has now evolved, even taking to the streets of London by bus… yes that’s correct, an Afternoon Tea Bus! Or, if you’re bored of dry land, why not take to the high seas for an Afternoon Tea Cruise? Honestly, the possibilities are endless! Reports state that “80% of Britons drink tea and consume 165 million cups daily, or 60.2 billion cups a year!” With this in mind, it was inevitable that venues were going to have to get creative to cater for all those tea sippers!

If tea doesn’t quite hit the spot for you, you can often substitute your Earl Grey for a glass of bubbles instead. Now that sounds like our kind of tea-time beverage!

With the endless Afternoon Tea possibilities, choosing the right one can feel a little overwhelming. That’s where we step in! Get in touch with Hen Heaven and let us organise you your very own perfectly brewed Afternoon Tea hen do!

3. How Hen Heaven and The Stag Company HQ are Celebrating Afternoon Tea Week

A snippet of Hen Heaven and The Stag Company's afternoon tea celebrations, tea and sweet treats

Here at Hen Heaven HQ, we love an Afternoon Tea and the opportunity it brings to share whatever may be on your mind with those closest to you.

We believe that it’s extremely important to keep opening up about the good, and not so good, events in our lives. We understand that life is busy, and things can unexpectedly pop up, but it’s important to take care of ourselves and those around us. Which is why Hen Heaven and The Stag Company are celebrating Afternoon Tea Week by sticking on the kettle, enjoying some delicious cakes and raising money for those who dedicate their time to helping and listening to those in need, the Samaritans

Whether you decide to venture out and experience an Afternoon Tea at a particular venue or create your own from the comfort of your very own home, it’s a great opportunity to get sharing and listening.
