With the day of all things lurve almost upon us, there seem to be two types of girls-the ones who drop sickeningly obvious hints about meals/ romantic weekends away/ embarrassingly large teddies, and the ones who roll their eyes and vow to be in bed by 7pm just to get it over and done with.
If you’re in the last camp, we know how it feels. Everyone’s loved up, getting engaged or buying their first home, and you’re still Instagramming selfies in your fave new shoes and ordering cocktails filled with glitter and upside down ice lollies on a Saturday night. Fear not though, because the mere mention of the big V Day doesn’t have to leave you frantically searching your TV Guide for your reality TV fix and a ready meal for one-after all, everyone deserves some loving, so here’s our Valentine’s survival guide for the single gal…
Go out with a friend- Why wallow in self-pity when you could be enjoying yourself? It’s a no brainer really-female friend, guy mate, your mum even-find someone you like being with and go out for dinner/to the cinema/ for drinks. Not only will you forget it’s Valentine’s day after a drink or two, but you can also have loads of fun laughing at the awkward dates around you and guessing who’ll last the distance and who’s getting a Valentine's veto! Not to mention, if you are on the market for a date, it’s worth getting out to a bar or two-plenty of potential suitors may have had the same idea! Just make sure your best guy mate doesn’t get the wrong idea if you ask him out-be absolutely clear if there isn’t any potential!
Treat yourself-If you don’t fancy a night out, treat yourself to something you’ve been lusting after. Just because you haven’t found another human you like spending all your time with yet or whose bad habits you can just about stand, it doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a little treat. Buy something that makes you feel good-whether that’s a candle for a night of relaxation or those new shoes you’ve had in your shopping basket since forever, getting something that makes you happy will give you something to look forward to when the big day arrives.
Have a pamper night-We don’t know about you, but there’s little we love more here at Hen Heaven than a good old pamper sesh. Treat yourself to a new nail varnish or light the candles and pour some of that lush smelling bubble bath you’ve been saving for a special occasion and relax. The idea is to do whatever makes you feel good-fake tan or give yourself a good body scrub-the best bit about it is you’ll be feeling amazing all of the next day too-you might even wish Valentine’s was more than once a year!
Remember, you might not have been the bride yet but you’re someone’s bridesmaid-We all know a wedding is one of the most important events in a gal’s life. We’ve seen even the most calm and collected bride to be’s turning in to a total Bridezilla by the time the big day arrives, and no bride gives her friends the honour of being one of her bridesmaids without careful consideration. If you’ve been chosen to be a bridesmaid, chances are you’re pretty fab anyway. Just think about it-your friend has selected you as someone she trusts to help her have the best day ever and it means she really values having you in her life, and if that isn’t making you feel all warm and fuzzy, we don’t know what will!
