One of our favourite proposal stories is from a few years back, when Neil Chandler proposed to his girlfriend Kaajal Barot in the fruit and veg aisle of their local Sainsburys supermarket in Clapham!
Right in the middle of their weekly shop, Neil suddenly burst into song, serenading the surprised Ms Barot with a rendition of It Must Be Love by Madness. But that wasn’t all…unbeknownst to her, Neil had been practicing with a local capella choir for weeks, and members of the choir started popping up all around her, disguised as shoppers. The song ended with Neil dropping to one knee and popping the question. Shoppers clapped and cheered, the choir were all in tears, and Kaajal was bowled over…but she found the words to accept!
‘I had wanted to be completely surprised if Neil ever proposed – and I certainly was!’ explains Kaajal. Neil continues, ‘I thought if I flew her to somewhere dramatic or took her to a fancy restaurant, she would know what was coming. Plus this way was pretty easy on the wallet!’
The couple had a stunning wedding in Jaipur, India. They have been happily married for nearly ten years and have two beautiful boys – what a funny and heart-warming start to their adventure! Take note, gents, romance doesn’t have to cost the world.
A huge congratulations from us at Hen Heaven and a big thank you for sharing this heart-warming story.
