Weird Wedding Gifts

Weird Wedding Gifts

Categories: Wedding Advice For Women

Perhaps you’ve already faced this dilemma before, the minefield that is choosing the wedding gift. As if booking a hen do wasn't enough, you're now tasked with finding the perfect present for your friend's big day.

If you’re lucky enough to have a wedding gift registry to view then the hardest part is done, with no need to actually choose a gift apart from finding the cheapest thing on the registry then you’re lucky.

However, if you are invited to a wedding that has no such thing the process of finding a suitable gift suddenly consumes your life as you spend every waking minute trying to find a gift that isn’t too expensive, is suitable for a newlywed couple and of course, won’t look stupid or weird next to everyone else’s presents when the special couple get around to opening everything after their honeymoon.

So here’s a list of wedding gifts that you should definitely cross off your list of ideas if they’re on there. If not, you’re doing a good job, but I still can’t believe these have been bought as wedding gifts before!

Personalised Salt & Pepper Mill

If your friends are the type that seasons everything they eat then perhaps a pair of personalised salt & pepper mills would be ideal for them? I have to admit, it’s an odd one if you ask me, but perhaps it just shows how well you know the lucky couple if you know that they’ll appreciate a personalised salt & pepper set!

A Cowbell

Well, they do say that ‘more cowbell’ is the answer to everything, so I assume the question the guest asked before purchasing a cowbell for their friends’ wedding had to be along the lines of ‘what couple possibly make this couple’s start to married life even better?’ Evidently the answer was ‘cowbell!’

His & Hers Bath Towel Set

I’m still not sure if this is a weird present or not, perhaps it is a sure sign that you are now together and that the ‘til death do us part’ bit is now as real as it can be, thanks to a rather spiffing new set of his and hers bath towels. Bonus points go for the towels having ‘his’ and ‘hers’ embroided as opposed to the bride and groom’s actual names.

Burial Plot

I really cannot decide if this is sweet or strange, but I saw this on an episode of Don’t Tell The Bride, I think it was an American version. Side-by-side (or his and hers?) cemetery burial plots for when the time comes. The more I think about it the more I think it’s a pretty sweet gesture, which also makes the ‘til death do us part but of the vows redundant. Because when the time unfortunately comes the lucky couple will still end up together, no matter what.

A Goat

Saving the strangest for last, you read that heading right, a GOAT! Forming part of a charity wedding gift list where the bride and groom would choose to have a charity list where all the gifts are given to those who are less fortunate, the goat is one of a number of charity gifts that newlyweds could ask for as part of an Oxfam initiative back in 2009. If I got a goat as a wedding gift, well that would really get my goat.
