What Robin Williams taught us

Categories: News

Last week, the world lost not only a talented actor, but one of the funniest men in the world. Social media was flooded with beautiful words about him. It’s amazing how we don’t know these people, but somehow through their careers, through their characters, they made an impact into our lives. Mrs Doubtfire taught us discipline, whilst John Keating taught us to seize the moment. I could go on all day, but I thought perhaps we should break it down into 12 quotes from Robin Williams’s characters from his classic movies.

Carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary. (John Keating, dead poets society)

They say a man who has to buy a big car like that is trying to compensate for smaller genitals. (Mrs Doubtfire)

I've seen things you only see in nightmares. Things you can’t even imagine. Things you can’t even see. There are things that hunt you in the night (Alan, Jumanji)

A whole human life is just a heartbeat here in Heaven. Then we’ll all be together forever. (Chris Nielsen, What dreams may come)

I try to make sense of things. Which is why, I guess, I believe in destiny. There must be a reason that I am as I am. There must be. (Andrew Martin, Bicentennial Man)

I’m history! No, I’m mythology! Nah, I don’t care what I am; I’m free hee! (Aladdin)

What do I want to be when I grow up? Alive. (Jack)

You're a complex Freudian hallucination having something to do with my mother and I don't know why you have wings, but you have very lovely legs and you're a very nice tiny person and what am I saying? I don't know who my mother was. I'm an orphan and I've never taken drugs because I missed the sixties; I was an accountant. (Peter Pan, Hook)

Onward and upward. Go pump some neurons. Expand your craniums. (Mrs Doubtfire)

Real loss loss is only possible when you love something more than you love yourself. (Sean, Good Will Hunting)

She’s got a power tool in the bedroom, dear. It’s her own personal jackhammer. (Mrs Doubtfire)

Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said “Most men lead lives of desperation”. Don’t be resigned to that. Break out! (John Keating, Dead Poets Society)
